Chicks for Hannah

I made a special field trip this week, along with a couple of our resident chicks, to see Hannah . We had a nice visit, as you can see here.

Sorry about the poor quality of the photos - we used my cell phone camera to take them! Hannah lacks fine motor skills, but she was definitely interested in these babies! She just needed a little help to fine-tune her snuggles!

In fact, I think our visit excited Hannah enough that she quickly tired out, as you can see below. Look at that sleepy face! The lovely lady in the photo is Hannah's nurse, Bobbie, who graciously agreed to help Hannah enjoy her visit with the chicks AND to have her photo published on this blog.

And, yes, everyone involved made sure their hands were clean after we played with the baby chicks! With the nurse and Mom, Dad and Big Brother on patrol, no germs had a chance!

One thing the visit highlighted was Hannah's desperate need for a new room. She's growing fast and all of her equipment and supplies take up most of the space in her room. Hannah's Mom is working on fundraising for a new room, but these things take time, so Hannah, the nurses and the family are making the best of the situation for now.

The family suffered a serious setback a few months ago when someone broke into the family van and stole Hannah's wheelchair. If you know anyone with any kind of physical limitations, you know that the equipment that keeps them mobile is a lifeline. You can't look at a specially-designed pediatric-sized wheelchair and NOT realize that it belongs to a special needs child. What kind of lowlife steals a wheelchair from a special needs child?

At any rate, it looks like the wheelchair is being replaced, and the fundraising efforts are still ongoing. If you get a chance, stop by Hannah's blog and say hello!

I immediately recognized your little friend Hannah! What a small world! I recently painted a picture of her at the request of her parents. Mom contacted me through Etsy. I think of this little girl often and pray that she is well. It brings me happiness to see these photos of her! I work with special needs preschoolers--the special kids are near and dear to me~

I can't believe someone stole her wheelchair. How pathetic is that?!?

I bet she really did enjoy the visit and getting to cuddle with the baby chic.

I think its wonderful what you did for Hannah and it does look like she really enjoyed your visit.

Its so sad she had to lose her wheelchair like that. Its someone thought so little about who they were stealing from.

I am now a follower of her blog too!

Thanks for sharing with us Terri!

*hugs*

Cris, I think that is so neat - I should have asked Hannah's mom to show me the painting! We were a little preoccupied with some noisy little birds, though!

Susie, it was an awful thing - I can't even imagine who would do such an awful thing. She did seem to enjoy the visit! :)

Debbie, thank you! I agree - it's a shame people are so thoughtless and selfish.

Terri, I'm sorry to hear about someone stealing Hannah's wheelchair. Hard to imagine someone stooping so low.

The chicks are so cute! I'm sure Hannah loved getting to see them.

Daisy, it was a sad day. I believe that what goes around comes around, though, and so I hope the thieves mend their ways!

I think Hannah and her family enjoyed the visit! :)

That's horrid that someone would steal Hannah's wheelchair. What were they thinking? Glad to hear that she is getting a new one.
I'm so glad she was able to have a fun time with the chick. So nice of you to make it possible.

Amy, I know! Pathetic, isn't it?

Donnatella, I don't know how anybody could take it - those chairs are custom-fitted to the child. It's scrap metal to anyone else.

Em, the family did seem to enjoy the babies - although they chirped loudly for most of the time that we were there! :)

It takes all 'kinds of people' but what a naughty thing to do ... steal a wheelchair. Shame on them!

How sweet to have baby chicks visit ... wonderful idea.

Have a beautiful week.

Oh, that is so sweet! Hannah has the most expressive eyes. I bet she just loved those little chicks.

Sorry I've not commented. I've been reading. I just shut myself out of the world and I'm kind of coming back.

Is everything going good with you?
