...but nobody will let me! You know, I really am very lucky, to be surrounded by people who care about me. And, so, instead of sitting around here moping because my baby is gone, I've been out for appetizers, and had houseguests and been visiting and there would have been a hike last night with Melissa, but a lightning storm put a stop to that.
Oh, and don't forget the comments on my blog, and the kind e-mails, and the prayers - you guys are the greatest! I am very lucky to be part of both a wonderful physical community and a wonderful cyber-community - thank you all!
My son called yesterday and says he's doing fine and will get us an address as soon as he's settled into a platoon. And he seems to have made friends already. So, I am sure he'll be fine. And I will, too - surrounded by friends, as I am.
Oh, and lest you think I forgot... nine days left. I can count 'em on my toes, now, if I want to! Nine days. Then I'll do the exact same thing I'm doing now, except with a paycheck. And benefits. And vacation - definitely a lot to look forward to.

I'm sure your son will settle in nicely. Glad to hear he's already making friends. 9 days?!?!? Yeehaw!! I know how excited you must be.
Nine days! That is great news. I am sure your son is making lasting friendships. I keep you all in my prayers.
Hi there,I too have a son in the military,He is stationed in Iraq right now,My other son was sent when the war broke out in 03.It is very hard on us parents,so hang in there,God takes care of us if we let him..take care..
Oh I know how you must feel. I get kind of sad this time of year because of all my kids going back to school, including me (I work with special needs preschoolers during the school year). My oldest goes away to college and tho my other two are here, we just don't have much time to spend together. I know my oldest going away to college doesn't compare to the military, I can only imagine. You will get used to it and it will make your reunions all the sweeter. Meanwhile, try to "wallow" in all that YOU have accomplished!! That is awesome, think of some special things to do for yourself with those extra dollars! You deserve it!
i know how you feel.... i became an empty nester this past year. :)
terri, i want you to know that i am proud of your sons....... they are doing a great service for all of us.

Sending your baby away has got to be hard. But you've been a good mom and he will do great. So excited for you and all that will happen in 9 days. You so deserve it. You've worked hard.
I personally dont want to think about my son leaving just yet. He just turned five so its a long way away still... But you must be ecstatic about being finished at last.
Friends are wonderful gifts indeed. You are in the midst of such ups and downs, Terri. I bet you feel pulled in all directions. Wishing the best for your son and for you too!
