The microwave oven gave up the ghost this week. I was melting chocolate and it started smelling like something burning. I thought I had burnt the chocolate, but when I brought it out it was clear that the source of the smell was the microwave. Now it won't run at all for more than 2 seconds, so it is toast, I am afraid.
The microwave is something I have taken for granted, recently - we haven't been without one in at least ten years. I use it all the time - I rewarm coffee, warm hot water for tea, heat my breakfast muffin on the way out the door in the morning (hot coffee and a warm muffin really boost your mood at 4 a.m. in the winter!), reheat leftovers, cook vegetables... the list is almost endless.
Now I am back to heating water in the tea kettle, rewarming leftovers in the oven (horribly inefficient!), and I've replaced my cold muffin with a less nutritious (but at least warm!) toaster pastry in the mornings. We'll replace the microwave next month (when it fits into the budget), so I can be creative for another two weeks or so.
On a happier note, I have one week remaining of my cardiovascular surgery rotation. I've survived three weeks of it, and it hasn't really been all that bad. Busy, certainly, and I don't really like getting up an hour earlier every day, but the cases themselves are really fascinating. I love big, busy cases - just not every single day! I am so behind on my thesis right now that I shouldnt even be posting this, but you have to something fun and frivolous once in awhile, right?
Have fun with your Christmas preparations, everybody!

Glad to get an update from you. I know it's been a hectic couple of weeks for you. Sorry about the microwave. We've had two in the last six years. The new ones just don't last like the big, old ones did. I hope you get caught up and can enjoy a little down time during the Christmas holiday. Such a pleasure to have "met" you this year and I wish you the best New Year!
Now Terri you know what they say, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". You need a little fun. Sorry to hear about your microwave. Bummers!!! I'd be lost without mine. At least they don't cost much these days.
I'm glad your rotation has been less difficult than you thought and I bet it is interesting!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday and Merry Christmas to you!
I've been wondering how you were doing.
(((HUGS)))
Glad you see an end in sight.
Sorry about the microwave. We need a new one too.... but sooooo not in the budget.

Three of my favorite ladies stopped by! Mildred, I am very glad to have "met" you, as well! Susie, I can't wait 'til my "play" is out in the dirt! :) Wolfie, you've been having some trials lately, haven't you? Here's hoping this next year is good for all of us!

Oh dear, no microwave! I'd go crazy. I use the microwave for practically everything. Bummer! :(
As for your rotation and studies and such, hang in there. You're almost there. One more week--you can do it. I'm happy for you that you can see an end in sight. :)
HA HA! The word verification for the comment box right now is "later." :D
Daisy, I am being very creative, and trying to look at this as a challenge! :)
Thank heaven microwaves are cheap now, or I wouldn't be able to get one until after graduation - now that would be bad! :)
