Gratitude, Revisited

I am surviving my cardiac surgery rotation, barely. I have to get out of bed by 3:10 a.m. in order to get to the hospital at 4:30. I get home, most nights, at 6 p.m. (or later); needless to say, I'm ready for bed by 8 p.m.! So, I am struggling a bit with my resolve to be mindful of the things I have to be thankful for. What's there to be thankful for about getting up at 3???

Well, a lot, as it turns out. For one, I am healthy enough to get up and get out of the house. For another, my friends and family (and you all know who you are, and I'm including my online friends in this one!) are being extraordinarily patient with me this month. Then, too, there's very little traffic on the road at 3:45 a.m., and none of it interferes with my drive in. Parking is easy to find, as well. Finally, (and the best thing!) - I only have to do this for two more weeks after tomorrow!

Oh, and finals are over!!! Over, over, over! I have no idea what my grade is, but I am so grateful that another semester is over. I don't get time off, per se, but I don't have to attend class after my clinical day again until the middle of January. That's a break, in itself.

Okay, I'm going to lay out my things for tomorrow, pack a lunch and hit the hay. Take care, everybody, and I'll post more later!

Terri

Glad to get an update from you. Glad, too, that you are going to bed early and getting as much rest as possible. I know you look forward to when things slow down a little and we will be glad to have you back as well.

i used to hate getting up so early too. i had to be at work at 6am. had an hour drive so therefore i was up at 4am.
but, i did like driving at that time of the morning. no traffic, you can actually look at the scenery, even in the dark. i think i liked the stillness in an environment that is used to being busy. how much longer do you have on this rotation? are you working christmas? i used to request to work christmas afternoon or night so i could have christmas eve off. nurses never get a rest. :).

Oh hon.... I guess you really could use some good sleep... couldn't you?? (((HUGS)))

I'm glad the finals are over for you. That's good.

I hope you get great grades on them too.

It's good to hear from you.

You hang in there Terri, make sure you get your rest. Your two weeks will be over before you know it.

Having no traffic and getting a good parking place is definitely a plus!

Oh dear, such long days. You must be exhausted! I'm so glad for you that the finals are over. That must be a relief.

I'm glad you shared this, Terri. I am always looking for what I should be feeling grateful for too. When we stop and give it some thought, we generally have much more to be thankful for than we ever can keep count of. When we stop and think about the plight of so many other people in the world, we can't help but think how incredibly lucky we are.

Have a great weekend! Rest when you can. :)

Wonderful! You are really stretched, but you seem to be holding everything together.
