Baby Cucumbers

The best thing about gardening is discovering little surprises, like the baby cucumbers that are already showing up on my plants. We'll be eating our own cucumbers in just a couple of weeks - there's nothing like fresh garden produce!

I know watching doesn't make the plants grow faster, but I can't resist checking them several times a day, just to see if anything's changed. And, this time of year, there are often changes from morning to evening, so that keeps me going back out there to check again!

Now, if only the tomatoes would hurry on, we could have a proper home-grown salad!

very kewl ! I never got a damg garden in at all. Maybe I will go buy some plants that are already started and put them in. We just haven't gotten the yard in order yet since it's over grown and full of downed trees still. I need to get the house painted first so I can at least get the front landscaped. Oh and sorry about the loss of your girls, so sad. Hope your feeling not so sad.

I am so jealous! I was going to have a garden this year, but then we decided to sell the house. :(

Will you be making pickles? My wife makes the best butter and sugar pickles ever. But I had some recently that rivaled hers, made with hot peppers.

Hmmm, pansies for chickens eh? Would you consider swapping "mentiv" for some? ;~P

Lisa, that's what I did this year - way easy, and not as expensive as I thought (if you shop carefully!). It's working!

Debbie, we'll have to talk! :)

Mildred, in the heat I just love a salad!

Heidi, selling the house does put a damper on gardening plans - maybe the new house will have one already in?

TC, I doubt we'll have enough for pickles - I really just planted enough for fresh eating. But I'll bet the pickles with hot peppers were really good!

Terri, I know what you mean about wanting to check the progress all the time. I used to do that when we lived at a different house where we had a big garden. It is always surprising to see how much can change just in a day's time. I hope you have lots to harvest. :)

oh multiple checking is a great part of gardening - our garden is SO far behind yours it's amazing though .. my cukes got eaten the day they went in (perhaps by somebunny?) but I'm not worried about getting a new seedling in - there is still loads of time!

That is the stuff that gets me excited too. I always think I am some strange person jumping up and down when the first little bumps of fruit are visible. I am behind you though and will have a while to go before edible happens. I only put seeds in the ground 10 days ago... wah! I have lots of seedlings. Grow babies grow!

Cool. My squashes and cucumbers are just barely starting. I've only got spinach and lettuce that's harvestable.
